Oliver Jeffers

Here's a great little video on Oliver Jeffers, one of my favourite picture book creators, talking about his work. You can visit his website here and while you are there you just might want to subscribe to his newsletter, which is always full of interesting little tidbits like this one.

  1. I love the way Oliver talks about the words changing the pictures and the pictures changing the words. What an interesting concept!

  3. Hi Robyn - great to hear from you! Hope things are going well with Dancing in the Dark? I have read a couple of lovely reviews online. Yes, I am particularly fascinated to hear from people who are illustrators as well as authors (eg; Shaun Tan, Eric Carle). It seems that often for these people the pictures can even come before the words. I guess it is similar to songwriting for people who write the lyrics and the music. I'm sure sometimes the words come first, other times the music and often both at the same time.
Hi Megan - yes, Oliver Jeffers is incredibly talented and fortunately seems very down to earth as well. There's nothing worse than discovering some you admire on paper is awful in real life!
    Thanks for writing!
    Sally
